At Lano, we’re on a mission to develop solutions that allow our customers to unlock global talent. We truly believe in the benefits of remote work and the advantage organizations can gain from tapping into a global talent pool. Being a distributed company ourselves, we experience these benefits first-hand every day by working with a global team whose 100 members come from 35 different nationalities. Having such a diverse team is a major success factor for us and we provide our teammates with maximum freedom and flexibility to enable them to do their best work every day.
But for a team to be successful, it also takes common values to guide them in their daily work and in working together as a team. For us, the four guiding principles we follow are enabling our customers, collaborating unconditionally, building for the long term and being globally minded. Read on as we deep-dive into each one of our core values to show you how we live these values in our day-to-day work and what it’s like to be part of the Lano team.
Our customers are at the core of everything we do at Lano, and we go above and beyond to ensure they are able to effortlessly build and scale their global teams. Working ourselves with a remote team whose members are distributed across 22 different countries, we know the challenges they face and do our best to remove all the employment and payroll complexities they struggle with, so that they can focus on their core business.
Being able to experience the benefits and challenges of remote work every day and using this experience to develop solutions that make a real difference for businesses all over the world is also one of the things that inspires our teams in their daily work. Our colleague Patryk Sudnik found some very poignant words to describe this: “As a product manager at Lano, you have a lot of freedom and your work really has an impact on the company. I get to be a part of fundamental changes and develop products and solutions that enable other people to work remotely, which is amazing,” the Senior Product Manager says.
Trust, communication and close collaboration are some of the key success factors in remote work, which is why we’ve made unconditional collaboration one of our core values. We trust and help each other as a team and communicate directly and honestly to make sure we keep everyone in the loop and avoid misunderstandings.
Collaborating across departments is a fixed part of work life at Lano, as is working with teammates who are based in different time zones. At Lano, we don’t perceive this as a challenge, but rather as an opportunity we can use to work better. Here’s how our Brazil-based colleague Fernando D’Imperio lives unconditional collaboration in his daily work routine. “I’m based in São Paulo, so there’s a 5-hour time difference with Berlin, which is great for me because it allows me to split my working day into two parts. In the mornings, I usually have meetings with my colleagues in Europe. And in the afternoon, I can concentrate on my projects and be more productive since I’m not interrupted by Slack messages,” the Data Engineer explains.
Our vision is set on our customers’ long-term success and we are passionate about the work we do every day to achieve this. We continually challenge the current status quo to come up with solutions that allow our clients to successfully navigate the future of work. Solutions that allow them to scale quickly and stay competitive in an ever-changing world of work.
It’s this long-term vision and the aim to provide real value to our customers through our products that makes working at Lano so rewarding. “It’s exciting to be part of a fast-growing company. I build solutions our clients will use for years,” Josephine Ernst, Fintech Development Lead, describes what she sees as one of the most rewarding parts of her job.
Making global work a reality isn’t just a question of having the right tools; it also requires the right mindset. At Lano, we follow a globally-minded approach in everything we do, from recruiting our team to building our product, which then enables our customers to implement this mindset too.
We foster an inclusive workplace culture across borders and see our multicultural team as a key to success. Bringing together different languages and cultures in our daily work is also something our teammates like about working at Lano. “Working with a multicultural team is also an amazing part of the job. Lano’s globally minded approach to hiring creates a diverse workplace, which makes work a lot more interesting,” comments Katherine Guevara, Senior Account Executive.
At Lano, we truly believe that a good work-life balance is the key enabler for our people to do their best work. Our team members are free to choose where they work from, be it from their own home, from our headquarters in Berlin, from a co-working space or from anywhere else in the world. “Being able to work from anywhere is a great advantage in terms of work-life balance. That’s something I frequently bring up in the conversations I have with possible recruits during my work as Talent Acquisition Manager,” comments Claudia Menezes, Talent Acquisition Manager at Lano.
Some of our colleagues use this location-independence to enjoy workations several times a year and discover new places. “I really enjoy traveling and appreciate that I get the chance to go on workations and spend time abroad to discover new places,” explains Johannes Kral, Content Strategist at Lano.
Others use the flexibility they have with Lano to spend extended periods with family and friends who live in different countries, as is the case for our teammate Caro Orrego, Head of Platform Experience. “I especially enjoy being able to go back to my home country for a month every year during Christmas. Like this, I get to spend time with my family during the festive season.”
And for others again, being able to work remotely for Lano has been a chance to relocate back to their home country, for example for Lano’s Brand Communication Manager, Raquel Camacho. “The location flexibility provided by Lano has allowed me to return to my home country after spending almost 12 years abroad. At the same time, I get the chance to work with an international, multicultural team and to travel to our headquarters in Berlin once every quarter.”
We’re on a mission to unlock global talent by reducing the complexities of global employment and payroll for organizations operating and growing internationally.
